It was lovely to take Tess for a walk today, in the glorious sunshine and freezing cold air. The frost was hard on the ground, the ponds were frozen over and our breaths turned into little cloudy puffs all of their own.
I took some pictures of the wintry landscape as we passed by. Some windfall apples were still bright red against the orange of the fallen leaves. The ice had formed some amazing swirls and bubbles in the pond, but we were warned from going too far by the “thin ice” sign! I also found a stash of what I thought were giant puffball mushrooms as big as my hand! Having checked the mushroom book when I got home I think they might actually be Earth Balls. Not poisonous as such but definitely no culinary delicacy! I’ll have to remember where they are so I can find them next year and have a proper look.
I lost my glove on the way out but retraced my steps with one freezing hand and was glad to pick it up on the way home again!
We are due a huge dump of snow later today so the pictures will look very different tomorrow…
