I don’t class myself as a girly girl. I don’t have loads of make-up, shoes, handbags etc, but even I was shocked at the amount of bottled STUFF I have amassed over the years. I hardly dared show you any photos, it’s pretty embarrassing.
And that’s not even all of it. I’m tempted to just tip it all onto a big pile and take a photo (but also scared).
Bottles of shampoo, conditioner, trial moisturiser pots and HOW MUCH body lotion? We all get suckered in by ads from time to time, claiming this potion or that cream will enable your hair to be super shiny, or promise the end to dry skin, greasy skin, combination skin…you name it. I’m no different. It’s a waste of resources and a waste of space! I’m pretty sure that women are more susceptible to this kind of advertising; there is so much pressure on both sexes to look perfect all of the time, but I definitely feel it’s worse for women (but I am biased obviously!) Let’s face it – I don’t have boxes, bags and cupboards full of pasta, for example!
But from today I am making a promise and a challenge to myself that I won’t buy anything else until ALL of the pots/bottles/sachets/jars are used up (and recycled obviously!). Plus – it’s a great time for a spring-clean!
My strategy is to use all all the small stuff first, which I figure will start to de-clutter straight away and probably give me a slightly gratuitous feeling that I’m hoping will tide me over when I start to get tempted by whatever the latest fad is. Watch this space and I’ll keep you updated with hows it all going, and let you know when I have reached the end of my stash!
