When I got home I carried on painting all my old mustard coloured doors (yes – they are about this colour – truly). I don’t just want them to be plain white but am still deciding the final look. I’ve painted the mustard coloured doors above my open-fire-to-be a very lovely bright red colour, which really makes the silver handles really stand out. The room looks so much better already.

lovely new red doors
I have a fun plan for my larder door but you’ll have to wait as it might go awfully wrong, in which case I’ll paint over it like it never happened, and we’ll never mention it again!
Despite having draught-proofed around my front door, there is still quite a draught coming under it. I had meant for some time to make a draught excluder but I didn’t want to buy one (they look so easy to make) or hand-sew it (too lazy) and although I had a sewing machine I was, quite frankly too afraid to use it (too chicken). I’ve had my sewing machine for four years and never used it once.
Nevertheless I braved it, unpacked my mint condition Janome sewing machine, consulted the all-knowing google on the best way to thread it and then got on with the business of making a sausage-shaped draught excluder out of an old curtain. I have to say – on the whole I am pretty proud of my handy work. It’s not too wonky, more or less sausage shaped and definitely cuts out the draught! I’d call that a win in anyone’s book and it took me less than an hour to make. I didn’t think it would work that well so I didn’t take any pictures, but I need to make another one so I’ll do a step-by-step with pictures later.
If I can do this – you definitely can!
